“HE’LL WEAR YOU DOWN TO WIPE YOU OUT’
Ministered by Pastor Mark Ballosingh on Wednesday 21st April 2010.
25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute[d] the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand
For a time and times and half a time.
Speaks of the Devil causing affliction in the mind…suffering in the mind, spirit, finances.
The tactics of the devil aren’t greater than the promises of God (Thus wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee Isaiah 26:3)
2 Kings 6 – 8:23
The Blinded Syrians Captured
8 Now the king of Syria was making war against Israel; and he consulted with his servants, saying, “My camp will be in such and such a place.” 9 And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there.” 10 Then the king of Israel sent someone to the place of which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him, and he was watchful there, not just once or twice.
11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, “Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?”
12 And one of his servants said, “None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.”
13 So he said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him.”
And it was told him, saying, “Surely he is in Dothan.”
14 Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. 15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18 So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, and said, “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19 Now Elisha said to them, “This is not the way, nor is this the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek.” But he led them to Samaria.
20 So it was, when they had come to Samaria, that Elisha said, “LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see.” And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and there they were, inside Samaria!
21 Now when the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, “My father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?”
22 But he answered, “You shall not kill them. Would you kill those whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master.” 23 Then he prepared a great feast for them; and after they ate and drank, he sent them away and they went to their master. So the bands of Syrian raiders came no more into the land of Israel.
Learning to Declare Victory over the devil….
The devil will try to wear down your constitution to serve God. His purpose is to kill (Spirit man, prayer life, worship), steal (joy, family, finances, good living) destroy and keep you from making it to where God has promised you. (John 10:10 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy)
3 Ways in which the devil to wear you down…
1) Intimidation – in your weakened state he will bring temptation. When Jesus was fasting in the wilderness for forty days the devil came in his weakened state to bring temptation.
His target group isn’t the people living in the world, the enemy has them where he wants them, he will target believers. The enemy was trying to wipe out Elisha as every time the enemy tried to take over Israel God will reveal it to Elisha…The enemy will try to wear down those who are fulfilling their purpose in God.
The enemy knows your weakness more than you do. He will take your 5% weakness and use this to overpower you.
Intimidation brings fear which is as a result of a lack of knowledge…You need to know – who the enemy is, how he operates and how to counteract the works of the enemy…..Temptation was first mentioned in the beginning with Adam and Eve. They were instructed not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge (Good & Evil) but temptation brought sin.
The devil speaks words of death, failure & destruction. Life & death is in the power of the tongue. Negative words are planted which will play on your mind and continue to intimidate you….
The devil is a liar – You are a Child of God. Accept the words of the Living God. David Declared “I will not die I will LIVE to declare the works of Almighty God.”
The nearer you get to God, the greater the devil will try to tempt you.
2) Proliferation – meaning to reproduce rapidly. Negativity makes one believe you are alone, isolated. Nothing or no one could help. He will cause doubt throughout your mind and soul.
Remember “Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world.” Do not believe what the Devil is saying to you, he will cause you to feel weary…but you have the promise of God “I will never leave you nor forsake you” David declared in Psalm 139 – If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there
In the loneliness and isolation we start to complain and ask God why..this is the time we need to stand up and praise him..
One night I had a dream–
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord
and across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints,
one belonged to me and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life.
This really bothered me and I questioned the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you would walk with me all the way,
but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life
there is only one set of footprints.
“I don’t understand why in times when I needed you most,
you should leave me.”
The Lord replied, “My precious, precious child,
I love you and I would never, never leave you
during your times of trial and suffering.
“When you saw only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.”
Do not give the enemy victory he wants you to complain. “Surely Goodness & Mercy shall follow you all the days of your Life”
Use the Word to counteract the enemy Psalm 23 –
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell[a] in the house of the LORD
Stop regurgitating the negatives and doubts placed in your life……Extraordinary affliction is not necessarily a result of extraordinary sin but the trials of extraordinary affliction brings extraordinary Faith & Grace through which God will raise an Extraordinary person.
3) Desperation – 2 Kings 6:14 – 15 – “Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. 15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
When the servant of Elisha looked up and saw the army surrounding he became desperate and cried out. When desperation steps in Faith must be activated to counteract it – Jehovah Jireh is my provider.
When we examine the outer peripherals of our situation in the natural eye we become desperate and do not see what God wants us to see. Elisha saw what God wanted him to see – Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.
If you are in a place where the devil has totally surrounded you and he has started to wear you down, do not let fear fill your thoughts for God has not given us a spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind. When you’re down to nothing God is up to something.
Trials & affliction are the food of Faith. Stand strong as going through these trials will feed your Faith and doubt will have to depart. “We walk by Faith and not by sight.”
WHAT CAN WE AS BELIEVERS DO SO WE ARENT WORN DOWN:-
“When the devil touches God’s chosen and anointed he is touching the Apple of God’s eyes”
1) Trust – Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6)..Look up in Faith and God will show you protection “I will lift mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help, My help cometh from the Lord”
2) Pray – Elisha prayed for God to open their eyes that they may see…When God opens your eyes its above what the enemy has planned for you…When you see what God wants you to see you become all God wants you to be.
3) Read the Bible and use the Word – Elisha knew who he was in Christ and used the authority of the Word over his enemies – “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
Fear is released and silenced.
Who the enemy sent to be Elisha’s captors now became captives. The thing the devil has set up for you, God is about to turn it around. You may be worn down but he will not wipe you out…Start speaking the word into your life and over every situation “I am the Head and not the tail, I am above and not beneath, I am the first and not the last”
Elisha led the captives into Israel. They now moved from a place where they had an advantage to where they were at a disadvantage. The devil will try to take advantage of you but God will lead him to a place where he is at a disadvantage.
Verse 22 – But he answered, “You shall not kill them.
It is recorded that as a result of the goodness shown to the Syrians they never attempted to invade Israel again. When God works it out that which was set out for evil on your life will be no more.
Acting in haste makes the situation worse. God will give you a strategic plan to deal with the enemy when we act in Faith
Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
