“DEATH”

Wednesday 13th October 2010 – Pastor Sharran Ballosingh

1 Corinthians 15 20-26 / 51-57: 20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, [and] become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man [came] death, by man [came] also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ‘s at his coming. 24 Then [cometh] the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy [that] shall be destroyed [is] death.

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory? 56 The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law. 57 But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

3 types of Death:-

1)      Physical

2)      Spiritual

3)      Eternal

Jesus spoke about death 175 times in The Bible, it was a topic which he was very excited and interested in however when he spoke to his disciples they were not of the same understanding as he was. John 10 17&18: 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Luke 18:31 Then he took [unto him] the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished

Death is an enemy of God, when God created the world he did not intend that we should die but have eternal life to commune and fellowship with Him. Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Death came into the world when Adam sinned and ate of the tree of life, God still wanted to redeem man back to himself he tried through the prophets who made sacrifices to Him but sin still prevailed, he could not do it without the shedding of blood….Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. God sent His Son to die for us and through the shedding of His Blood we would have Eternal Life…God sent his Son through a virgin’s womb without any contamination his Blood spotless.

God cannot stand sin, it is said when Jesus was on The Cross, God turned his face for Jesus became sin for us….

How did Jesus conquer death? Jesus was touched by the feelings of our infirmities, he felt the pain and experiences we feel, it was a painful and agonizing process but Jesus didn’t give up, being obedient to God to the end, he bore the embarrassment, being spat on and ridiculed he endured to The Cross. When we are going through our trials and tell God this is too much, he knows and can identify with our cries, when you think you are all alone and no one wants to identify with you remember when Jesus was on his way to be crucified no one wanted to identify with him but God identified with His Son…..at his death God said “It is finished”

As Believers we have victory over death, because of the death and resurrection of Christ, when Mary came to the tomb of Jesus an angel said to her “why seek the living among the dead” Christ rose again and the grave no longer has victory “O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory?

 Victory over Death

God found a way to counter-act death, but sometimes we as Believers hold unto things which weigh us down, dead weight in our lives and do not allow God to take them and crucify them. Today God is saying to “let go off those dead things in our life”. We may think we do not have any dead things but somehow we are unable to access the victory, we are unable to tap into the Heavens and get intimate with God and this is because we have failed to let go off things which have now become heavy dead weights and have prevented us from moving forward.

It is said that long ago the penalty for murder was to tie the body of the murdered person to the murderer until the stench eventually kills him. We do not have to carry our sins to the point where we too become dead spiritually or physically, Christ walked the earth so we can be free and have victory over death

Religious Spirit – having to do things in a particular order and being tied up in following things according to the “ideal” way that we may cast out those who are seeking to come into the Church. The greatest law that Jesus put down was the law of love but we get so stuck on laws and ideals that we forget to focus on the Love of God. Religion wouldn’t save you, but your relationship with God.

We no longer have to die a spiritual death because of the things which we have hidden so deep down inside, just like Christ conquered death so too we can walk that road of victory and speak life over death. It’s time we ask God to cleanse us from these hidden things which have trapped us in our minds and we can no longer pray but we are more than over-comers and we do not have to stay in the state of dead things.

We have the power to over-come and do not need for the preacher to come and give us a word as Jesus said to his disciples in Matthew 20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Today we can thank God for the Blood of Jesus for he who the Son sets free is free indeed, we do not need to be in bondage for those problems we have held unto year after year, we have to pray for the same spirit which raised Christ from the dead to dwell in us so we too can conquer and speak death to those dead situations. Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Jesus conquered sickness we have the power and authority to speak God’s word over every sickness “by his stripes we are healed”. The devil does not like to hear God’s word, he was in his glory when Christ was being crucified but he did not know of the plan of God Almighty.

Jesus conquered death and because he did we can conquer those dead things in our lives. Thank God for The Blood, The Cross, Calvary for we can walk that walk like Christ walked and crucify those dead things.
