In the midst of your confinement God is going to make room….have you ever been in a position where you felt like David, the waters raging around you? Psalm 69 1&2 Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. 2I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. Have you ever felt those around you are just wishing you die? Have you ever felt like the devil was all around you anywhere you turned he was there? The days of spiritual claustrophobia are about to come to an end, today is the day for breakthrough, God is saying I’m about to enlarge your borders, the devil has tried to limit you and inhibit you but look out for God is about to push back the borders, God is saying “get ready, get ready, I’m about to set you free”
Sometimes the enemy will send things our way and it’s like a fog over our life and we feel as though we can’t move, but the God we serve is an awesome God, a miraculous God and all performing God, God is about to push back, push out and make room in your situation today.
2 Samuel 23 13-18 And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim. 14 And David [was] then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines [was] then [in] Bethlehem. 15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which [is] by the gate! 16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that [was] by the gate, and took [it], and brought [it] to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD. 17 And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: [is not this] the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men. 18 And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, [and] slew [them], and had the name among three.
The scripture above gives an account of the Philistines building a garrison around David to imprison him. Although David was imprisoned and went through these trials he came out of it and wrote about God’s goodness to him… David starts the Psalm not complaining or reminiscing of the bad but pays honor to God and pays attention to the Power of His God.
Psalm 18 1-20 chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day [that] the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said,> I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. 2 The LORD [is] my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, [and] my high tower. 3 I will call upon the LORD, [who is worthy] to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. 4 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. 5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. 6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, [even] into his ears. 7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. 8 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. 9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness [was] under his feet. 10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. 11 He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him [were] dark waters [and] thick clouds of the skies. 12 At the brightness [that was] before him his thick clouds passed, hail [stones] and coals of fire. 13 The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail [stones] and coals of fire. 14 Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. 16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. 17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. 18 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay. 19 He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. 20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
In the midst of the negative, keep your eyes on God pinpoint the characteristics of the God you serve…”Psalm 91 2-4 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. “He is a very present help in the time of trouble,” “if you call upon the name of The Lord you shall be saved,” look at the devil in the heat of the battle and tell him “there is nothing like The Blood for it reaches to the highest mountain and it flows to the lowest valley”
David identifies the purposes and promises of God, “God said you shall live and not die” He remembers the mercies of God, the more imminent the danger and difficult the situation, the deeper the pit, the rougher the sea, the darker the storm, the greater the Deliverance. The more the devil pushes the more God will exalt you, he will lift you and he will do it in the most pressing time, he will not allow man to have the glory but He will have all the Glory.
David was trapped in the cave and couldn’t come in or go out but he recognizes God is on his side v16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. David hid in the cave and the enemy surrounded him but at God’s opportune time he drew David out….v18 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay. v19 He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. God brought David out of his discomfort into a place of comfort a place with a sure foundation, a place where he had peace of mind….”God hiddeth our soul in the cleft of the rock” When God takes you out from your place of gloom he places you on a strong foundation when he draws you out he will bring you to a place where you are mobile and free to praise, a place where you are free to lift your hands and worship Him…..
When God steps into your situation the first thing he does is point you out and protect you, he builds a hedge around you and covers you from being part of the collateral damage from the battle. God shields you ‘he that toucheth you, touches the apple of my eye” When God is fighting for you, he tells the devil, “this is a battle between you and I, I’m fighting this battle for a child of God”
- The account of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, were thrown into the fiery pit, God sent a forcefield around them where the fire could not even touch the hair on their head.
- God will draw you out like Moses. God kept and preserved Moses in a time when Pharaoh made a decree that all male babies be killed. His mother would put him in a basket and send him in down the river Nile, a river which was very dangerous. Moses would then be found by Pharaoh’s daughter who would draw him out of the river.
God is about to draw you out of the mouth of danger just as he drew Daniel out of the lion’s den. God is saying my hand is outstretched, I’m not going to leave you daughter, I’m about to draw you out of that habit, vice, relationship, that situation…..’are you ready for God to draw to you out?”
Has the devil ever put you in a situation where you are spiritually thirst and barren and you long to sing a hymn or you long to have someone pray with you? In the midst of your gloom, God will make room, thank God for he will take you out of the miry clay and place your feet on solid ground, he will put a new song in your mouth, when you feel like there are no more tears he will bring joy. In the midst of your danger, God will bring Deliverance and put you into a place of comfort. Aren’t you thankful that our God is a God who doesn’t sleep, His arms are not too short that he cannot reach out to you, he is the God of the Heavens and God over the earth. In the midst of your gloom, God will make room, look not at what the devil is doing look to the Heavens, He is the King of Glory and the Lord God of battle.
When you examine the Psalm it not only shows David’s adoration for God but it shows his sincerity and earnesty in what he was saying. The more truthful, sincere and earnest you are with God, He will answer you direct. God looks at your heart when you pray he looks for the longevity of your relationship with Him, he looks to see if you just want a quick fix or if you’re in it to the end…..people prefer Pastor’s to lay their hands on them and pray or to receive a word but get deeper with God and he will speak directly to you.
David realized his relationship with God would earn him direct answers from God, he also realized that when he was deep with God there were little appearances from man and more appearances from God…..I don’t know about you but I’d rather God consistently show up than an undependable man or woman showing up now and then…David recognizes God is answering him and he started to recount when the enemy was around him how God showed up and dealt with the enemy (Psalm 118 – 6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, [even] into his ears. 7 Then the earth shook and trembled. 14 Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.) Just as the earth shook then God is shaking the earth and speaking to nations tonight….
If you put God’s children under pressure, He will show up and shake the earth, He will show up and rent the Heavens, he will cause nature to raise in all fury, He will put on the cloak of invisibility….God is looking at every move of the enemy, look out for God is about to step in and make room in the midst of your gloom, God will use whatever is at His fingertips to give you your breakthrough. Some of us need to know when God shows up we do not have to try and take control but let God do what he has to do.
David further reiterates the goodness of God in Psalm 116:3-6 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. 4Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. 5Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. 6The LORD preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. Have you ever been in a situation where you felt as though the next move is the grave? Some of us give up too easily, we believe too much on the negative……but know that when no man careth, Jesus standeth by, call Him He is not too far away, His ears are open to hear your cry.
David didn’t abuse the room God gave him when instead he wrote a Psalm to praise God for he knew where he was and where God brought him too…..when darkness was all around him, God brought him out for he held on, he pressed on, he worshipped God and he endured to the end…
The enemy tries to lock you down but Jesus came to set the captives free…..I’ve come to let somebody know that your time of lock down is over, God is about to overthrow, He is about to make room in the midst of your gloom.
If the devil has you fogged in and slowing your pace when you are trying to get to your destination, hold on and ask God to make room in the midst of the gloom…
