Sunday 7th November 2010 – Pastor Mark Ballosingh

If you are not in Christ then you are out of Christ and you are in sin.

Ephesians 1 3&13 v3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
v 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Paul addresses certain things to those at Ephesus:-
1) Know who you are in Christ, understand you were saved by the Grace of God.
2) He addressed the way they were living, mixing up the things of the world with the things of Christ. (sometimes we come out of Egypt but Egypt remains in us)
3) Spiritual warfare – doors which are left open when we import things of the world with the things of the Church.

If any man be in Christ he is a new creature, when you receive Christ what was seemingly nothing in the eyes of man becomes a new creature with a purpose. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Old things are passed way, passed meaning death……the old person, nature and passions are passed away.

Salvation is dependant on you being in Christ for Christ is our Saviour and Redeemer, He is who we depend on and trust in. If you take Christ out of Salvation there is no Salvation. Christ in us is the hope of Glory. Many people are going to church but they are not in Christ for when trials come their way they cannot identify with Christ.

As a Believer, it is important to understand your position in Christ, it doesn’t matter who your Pastor is, what church you go to, how much you do for the church, what matters is you have left the things of the world and the thought patterns of the world and you are in Christ. When you leave the world and become one with Christ your environment changes, the people who surround you changes, the decisions you make are different for your every step and thought are directed by God.

Being “in” Christ…..the term in according to the Hebrew means to continue, abide, dwell, endure, remain, tarry, wait, to spend or pass time, to stand……therefore to be in Christ means to continually be with Him, to dwell with Him and to spend time with Him but our routine day to day activities gets us so caught up in getting everything done for our job and family that we no longer have time to spend with Christ.

When you put Christ in the forefront of your life and mind then everything else will fall into place for every step you take, Christ will guide you. Some people pin their success on how much money they have, their level of education but the devil will tap into their thought process and all those things will count as nought.

Knowing who you are in Christ:- Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

The reason why people backslide right in the church is because they are serving God half-heartedly and have never given the Holy Spirit the chance to seal their life. How do you know if you are in Christ? When you are sealed by the Holy Spirit and by the confirmation and approval of your testimony….. sealed by the adoption process of the Holy Spirit Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Knowing who your are in Christ is important but more importantly is knowing who you are in relationship with God. It is not good enough to just go to church for there are many people who go to church but don’t speak to their neighbor and have an attitude that doesn’t reflect Christ but when you are sealed by the Power of the Holy Ghost the old man is passed away. .

When something is sealed that which is sealed cannot come out and the thing which is sealed off nothing can come in…..The sealing Power of the Holy Spirit will help us stay in Christ….When the Bible speaks about “predestinated” it is not when we are of the world but when we come into the adoptive Power of the Holy Ghost Ephesians 1:4 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Some people are walking shamelessly and when others look on they question “is that person a Believer?” When we walk in Christ we must walk soberly, we must walk in the knowledge of Christ, knowing who he is 1 Thessalonians 5 5&6 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as [do] others; but let us watch and be sober.
When Christ was going to be crucified His disciples walked afar off for fear if people knew they were associated with Him, they too would be crucified. To know Christ is to be in Christ, He is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother, being in Christ is knowing the Will of God in your life.

People who are not of Christ are filled with fear, but if God so takes care of the birds of the air, He will surely take care of you such is the assurance for those who walk in Christ. When you walk with Christ each day is sweeter than the day before, if you know who Christ is you know He can do exceedingly, abundantly over all we can ever imagine because we belong to Him.

When you walk with Christ, He will determine His Will in your life, when you come into the ways of Christ then the things of the world become dim and of no interest to you. God will allow situations to come into your life which will allow others to see the Christ is in you and you are in Him.

The old man in passed away. The old man is controlled by sin, thinks of the flesh man more than the Spirit man, bends to the temptations of sin and is governed by the things of the world. Jesus is a burden bearer and the old man is a burden, He doesn’t give us burdens to bear put the burden in His hands for He is in control. When we are in Christ we are a new creature some of us need to rest our worrying and leave our cares and fears in the hands of The Almighty.

It is important that we know the devil knows our weakness and it is more important for us who are in Christ to know our weaknesses for what the devil meant for evil God will turn into something good. A relationship with Christ through fleshly living is impossible, how could a man who is living in the flesh says he lives in Christ, for bitter and sweet cannot flow from the same fountain.

Being in Christ is not an outwardly expression but it is your inward behaviour and the inner man has to connect with God. There is a saying which cults have adopted “if you can control the outwardly behaviour there is no need to deal with the inner man……but Believer know that God looks at the heart when man looks at the outward, we cannot say we are in Christ if our soul is in a mess. “that which a man sows surely he shall reap”

The world sets itself up to look nice and appeal to us but when we walk with Christ we must have a serious line of demarcation, when people look at us they know we are not of the world but are of Christ. Broad is the road which leads to destruction, straight and narrow is the path to eternal life and very few find it. When you find that path your partner is Christ and no longer the world. A transition and transformation must take place, when you come into Christ old things are passed away – the old thoughts, old principles, practices and passions have to be put to death when you start your walk with Christ.

How can these old things be passed away? The old man must die for the new man to be born. When Jesus died on The Cross he crucified all those old passions and practices. Christ bore everything on The Cross for us, every stripe on his back was for sickness and healing, His arms opened and nailed represents the nailing of those practices which we use our hands for fleshly things, the crown represents our thought process, when the Blood flowed it re-generated us and brought us into the new man….”behold old things are passed away”

But it is a difficult walk as the struggle between the things of the world and the things of God is a hard fight but when you choose to walk in Christ you have to give up all things of the world. When you die nothing you have accumulated will be taken to Heaven the only thing that will stand before God is the condition of your soul. As a Believer in Christ our Blessings are in the spirit realm and not in material things. Matthew 6 19-21 19Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

When you walk in Christ every day he will guide your way and open doors for you. God does not reward sin so it’s time you made a decision to walk in Christ for He is a judge of sin, He is a loving, gracious and merciful God, His hands are stretched out to us, His ways are higher and better than our ways.

Take time to know Christ and to walk in Christ.
