“I WALK BY FAITH”

Sunday 15th November 2010- Pastor Mark Ballosingh

As a Child of God, I walk by Faith, not by appearance or feelings. I see things at a different level and perspective, I walk on a different plane – Faith…when people look at my decisions and actions they realize that it is not in the natural but by Faith. I am not a salt or sugar Christian that I melt away and lose Faith when trials and tribulations come my way. History records our linage of people who lived by Faith….Abraham, Moses

2 Corinthians 5 1-8:For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.4 For we that are in [this] tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. 5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing [is] God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 6 Therefore [we are] always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, [I say], and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

The Apostles did not faint because they walked by Faith, they had a desire and assurance which were undergirded by Faith. They had the expectation of a new life in a different dimension, “if we should die walking in the footsteps of the Master and this earthly house crumbles, God will bring us into a new place. They knew to be absent in the body is to be present with Christ. “Oh death where is thy sting” death, the grave and hell has been conquered.

As a Child of God when they stand above us and say “dust to dust, ashes to ashes”, even in the grave Faith gives the assurance of eternal life. Faith assures us of a new life in a new dimension, Faith is the assurance of Resurrection. Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

No other faith gives the assurance of eternal life but the Word of the True and Living God.
Walk by Faith and not by sight some related scriptures:-

John 14 1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

1 Thessalonians 4 13-18 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words

Philippians 1 21-24: For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain. 22 But if I live in the flesh, this [is] the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. 23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: 24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh [is] more needful for you.

Philippians 3 10-21: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. 12Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. 17Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Titus 2 13-14 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

The world will try to change my walk of Faith but because of who God is in my life and where he has brought me from I have confidence that the path of Faith I have chosen is the correct one.
God gives us the enablement to trust Him….if feelings were given in exchange of Faith we would be discouraged and would drop out of the race….but our God is the same yesterday, today and forevermore.

If appearances were given in exchange of Faith we would be misled and misguided……some people are smiling on the outside, are well dressed pleasing to the world’s standards but on the inside they are burdened and want to give up, fear is overtaking them, but today I thank God I am not dependant on appearances but I am dependant on my Faith….”I walk by Faith and not by sight”

When we face God it is important that we have a certain degree of Faith, for God is a Spirit and we worship him in Spirit and in truth…how can we worship a God we cannot see????? Faith does not depend on imagery some faiths would dictate we worship an image or something we can see but when we pray our God hears us and our Faith moves from the natural to the supernatural realm. David speaks about the invisible God although we can’t see Him doesn’t mean He isn’t real, let Him fill your soul and make you whole…

Solidify your Faith in a God that the world cannot appreciate. It is not for the church to prove God to the world, when the rain falls, the sun shines, that’s God, our God proves Him-self everyday. Faith gives me the ability to press on, move forward, despite what I am going through Faith keeps me connected to Almighty God. When thunderous storms come my way and I feel trapped in the quicksand of life, Faith gives me the strength to press on, Faith keeps my lifeline connected to a God who will bring me to safety.

As a Child of God it is your duty to walk by Faith, your purpose isn’t to remain sheltered and not experience tests and trials, “ships are safe in the harbour but that is not the purpose of a ship”

My Faith is attached to God, a resilient Faith that is attached to the Rock of Ages and not to sinking sand “On Christ the Solid Rock I stand”, solidified and cemented Faith. When the devil tries to touch my Faith and makes me feel to give up I can bounce back for my Faith is covered by the Blood of Jesus.
Faith was tested
 Judas kissed Christ in the garden, a kiss expresses affection but Jesus discerned that this was a kiss of betrayal….. Faith was tested.
 Pilate was the man who could have released Christ but instead sentenced Him to be crucified…. Faith was tested.
 When the swords were pierced into His sides, the cruelty of the Cross on His way to Golgotha, He should have given up….Faith was tested
 When He looked up to His Father and God turned His face, Faith was tested.

The Earnest desire of a believer is a Blessed Assurance.
 The whole creation groaneth at the inception of sin into the world, because of sin a burden was placed on us “wages of death is sin”, but we look forward to a Blessed Faith when the warring of Spirit and flesh will be over. Faith will give us the strength to unburden ourselves from sin.
 The burdens of flesh and calamities of the world have plagued us and day by day the world burdens us but by Faith there is a blessedness, a calm and peace, a release from these burdens……Faith draws the line and doesn’t bring us to the point where we are politically correct but Faith determines who we are in Christ.
Faith stirs the assurance of who we are in Christ when we remember the grace and mercy of God, “I should have been in jail, I should have been lying on a hospital bed” but God’s saving grace has brought us thus far…….

The Blessed Assurance of the Believer:-
 Assurance of peace of mind – we were walking heavy-ladened, shoulder bent, feeling as though all hope is lost, though darkness is all around, Faith gives us the assurance and ability to speak to the storm and say “peace be still!!”
 Experience the Grace of God – The status of a Believer is wrapped up in your Faith knowing that you are just a pilgrim passing through, the Bible says we are sojourners, a traveler in this world just passing through. Faith gives us the assurance that problems will come our way but it will pass away……Walk in Faith, knowing that your treasures are laid up in Heaven.
 We walk by Faith – Faith is the tool which God has given us to walk through this world, Heaven doesn’t require Faith but sight because of Faith we get to Heaven which shows our Faith is accomplished. Apostle Paul “crown of righteousness” being tangible and requiring sight. 2 Timothy 4 7&8 7I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. The next world doesn’t talk about Faith but it talks about sight, when you walk out of this world, thank God for the Faith he has given you and ask for sight to see His Glory.
It is your duty as a soldier in the army of God to walk by Faith. Believers who walk without Faith are the target of the devil. If you walk without Faith you are defeated, some people like to see before we believe, but the carnal man cannot discern the things of the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. We are commissioned to walk in this life by Faith, as we walk by Faith God will materialize his promises and we will see the blessings.

A faithful man is an obedient man, an obedient man is a man who pleases God, when we please God we become privileged in the eyes of God 2 Corinthians 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

Faith gives us the ability to be privileged, an Ambassador of Christ. He will open doors which need to be opened and close those which need to be closed, protect you in your going out and coming in, He will make you the head and not the tail. Deuteronomy 28:3 Blessed [shalt] thou [be] in the city, and blessed [shalt] thou [be] in the field.

Demonstration of your Faith in this world makes you a privileged Child of God which is the greatest reward of your Faith. “I will never leave you nor forsake you” as His privileged children we are given a book full of His promises.

The promise the Believer walks on and stands on is Faith, “Let not your Faith be placed elsewhere but let your Faith be placed on God”
