2 John 1:4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father
It is important to understand the different ways the word Truth is used throughout the Bible…sometimes it is used as a verb, sometimes an adjective in this scripture it is used as a noun which describes an object being truthful at the base / matter of the foundation.
If a belief or doctrine at its very foundation does not demonstrate truth then its’ pillars would be shaky. External behaviour is a manifestation of the truthfulness of what you believe in.
Truth is manifested by action – some people will keep their material possessions spotless and close to their heart but when they open their mouth and express what is in their heart then you see their true behaviour.
Manifested truth is found in the way we walk, the way we talk and by the choices we make. The children of God are scrutinized by the eyes of the unbeliever not always by the doctrine and word of God but by the way they walk.
The Truth of God is indicated by His faithfulness which is exhibited through His promise through His Son, Jesus Christ. The birth of Christ is the manifested truth of God. God promised and His Word came to pass, our God is a God of truth, He does not lie, the truth we hold in the gospel is directly from God. The Truth of God is that which He promises and fulfils. God’s truth will help you overcome as you walk in His truth.
Christ was the perfect manifestation and demonstration of the Truth of God he personified the Truth of God and He represented the Truth of God.
Zacharias was a legal thief but when Jesus met him he got saved and went back to the people he stole from and gave them back what was stolen and more. Truth brings about transformation. Jesus said, “I am the truth, the way and the light”, when people come in contact with the truth they are transformed.
Today we live in a world that is governed by lies and the reason people are not being transformed is because the truth isn’t being preached. When the truth is preached it will cause people to be drawn and transformation will take place.
Truth demonstrated through sincerity and integrity of character. John 8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 1 John 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Apostle John was overjoyed when he heard the people were walking in the truth and they didn’t only hear the Word but they were walking in the truth. . 3 John 1:3 & 4For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. 4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth
The Spirit of Truth related scriptures –
Mark 12:14And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
Luke 20:21 and they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
2 Corinthians 6:7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left
Colossians 1:6Which is come unto you, as [it is] in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as [it doth] also in you, since the day ye heard [of it], and knew the grace of God in truth:
1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth- Let us not demonstrate the truth by tongue but we love indeed and in truth.
2 Ways to love in truth:-
i) Love indeed – indefinite acts, when you say to a person “I love you” they shouldn’t have to doubt or question it.
ii) Love in truth – by being genuine in doctrine and profession. Even the devil knows the scripture and he will take the doctrine to use for his own purpose. Similarly, some people use scripture conveniently, when it could benefit them and not for the truth.
Truth demands acknowledgment – there must be evidence. Truth must not only be spoken but acknowledged. Matthew 15:27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. Christianity is based on truth, there are indicators of evidence through the Bible and it is the only Faith which has evidence. People rather believe in a fable because it makes them feel good but there is no manifestation of truth being demonstrated out of their life.
Truth is demonstrated in Christian love and is founded upon appearance of vital religion. It is the Truth of God which enables His children to demonstrate that love. Jesus said in Matthew 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. Truth can be inculcated by the way you deal with a situation……Peter asked Jesus “how many times shall I forgive my brother?” Jesus answered seventy times seven…
Truth is demonstrated through kindness. Kindness should beget affection, you should love truth, recognize truth and when you see this demonstrated in others, Rejoice….If we are alike in mind and in spirit then we are able to demonstrate that affection. When the church demonstrates truth throughout the Body of Christ then there is an affection in the Body.
Truth has to have a defined walk. The world has challenged the church on their beliefs on truth and love “how can the church preach about love but are against homosexuality”, but the church loves the person and hates the sin as there will come a day when God will judge and he will judge in truth and in love.
How do we identify people who walk in the Spirit of Truth:-
1) In people who walk in God’s perfect way.
2) People who walk in integrity – Proverbs 19:1Better [is] the poor that walketh in his integrity, than [he that is] perverse in his lips, and is a fool. Better is a godly poor man than an ungodly rich man…..Those who walk in integrity are blessed and their children are blessed. Proverbs 20:7 The just [man] walketh in his integrity: his children [are] blessed after him.
3) People who walk guided by the wisdom of God, the wisdom of God is different from the wisdom of man. Ecclesiastes 2:14 The wise man’s eyes [are] in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.
4) People who walk in righteousness – Isaiah 33 15-16 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; 16 He shall dwell on high: his place of defence [shall be] the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters [shall be] sure. A person who walks in the spirit of truth walks knowing the moment he deviates from that path he opens the door to the devil.
5) Walks in the fear of the Lord. Before making a decision he consults with God first and doesn’t make his own decisions.
Believer, walk in the spirit of truth, when you walk in truth you walk in righteousness, when you walk in truth you walk in light and not in darkness.
When you walk in the spirit of truth, God will transform you. One of the effects of truth is justice, the right results will always be before you.
