ELEVATION – 2nd step in establishing yourself in God.

Wednesday 16th February 2011 – Pastor Mark Ballosingh.

For there to be a building up of the church it must start from within, brethren to brethren. There is a need to show compassion to each other. One of the greatest downfalls of the church is she has become selfish.
To elevate – to lift to a higher position, raise to a higher level or status, having a higher intellectual and moral level.

If the church doesn’t elevate her-self she cannot lift those around her.

Today in the newspaper there was an article on same sex marriages, our nation is heading down a road of Godlessness, we are entering into a dispensation where the church is heading to hell if she doesn’t elevate herself.

If we are not alert, our nation will fall in an abyss, the churches have gone silent, the preachers have compromised themselves with the politicians and the church is being desperately pulled into a pit.
The church must set a standard of morality.

To be elevated – to arise, ascend, set upright, to restore, to set straight. One of the things the church needs to do is to be restored and set straight. How could the church restore and set the world straight when the church herself is bent. You can’t take a bend church to straighten the world – deep cries out to seep, iron sharpeneth iron. The church needs to be restored – the people, the preachers, the elders, Sunday school teachers. In order for the church to make a marked difference in this dispensation she must elevate herself.

Matthew 12:11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift [it] out? – In order for the sheep to come out of the pit it must be elevated – taken out. Similarly our nation is in a pit when those holding the legislation have openly rejected Christ.

We are in a crisis and the church as a watchman has failed…..Ezekiel 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” It will take a straight and awakened church to take this nation out of the pit.

God will not use anything or anyone but people of righteousness and Holiness to bring us back to Him, a people who will bow themselves before Him. The only time one can be elevated is when you kneel….if you cannot and do not want to kneel before God, He cannot elevate you. Before Jesus ascended He had to kneel, the process of elevation for the church and the believers starts with kneeling.

Acts 3: 1- 9 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, [being] the ninth [hour]. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted [him] up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God:10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.

Peter and John came to the crippled man (he was in a lowly position) who laid at the doorsteps of the church for years, begging for alms….This firstly was a reflection of the powerlessness of the church, not one passing by each day had the power to raise this man up. Secondly, it showed the nonchalance of the church in dealing with a situation they had the power to deal with.

Because of the condition of the church at the time, God had to take Peter and John who were of different knowledge and background to bring this man out of the pit.

When we look at our country we have been sitting at the door of the church, an institution which has the power to deliver us out of the pit but can’t even help them-selves…..and I say, we are in a bad state.

Peter instructs the crippled man “Look on us” – he was in a pit so long that he was accustomed to one level but he was about to be elevated. His focus was changed, his direction changed, he was focused on men who were paying attention to his condition. As he focused his eyes on Peter and John something changed….his expectation was money but Peter said “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk., ….there was an injection and infusion of something different, a dose of the Holy Ghost – his Faith was activated.

The disciples identified clearly the source of Hope – Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The church has become cold and callous to those around us…we need to help people focus to where there is help. Our nation needs to fasten its’ eyes on a people and a God who would elevate us.

We live in a faithless and perverse generation who needs a work to spark their Faith, a word that would generate Hope and a word that although they may be in a pit they still have Joy. This nation needs Hope, they need to focus on a God that does not lie, they need to hold unto something to climb out of the pit. Our nation needs to identify the source of help today and that is Jesus Christ. He is hope to the hopeless, father to the fatherless, healer to the sick, King of Kings and Lord of Lord, the Alpha and the Omega, He that was and is and is to come.

“Rise up” – come out of your situation. Our nation is in a crippled state, the devil has our nation crippled and on Carnival Monday and Tuesday when the spirits of Carnival are evoked it gives the devil more ammunition. Note, the spirit of Carnival is rooted in Africa it was a celebration and evocation of spirits and things the slaves secretly held unto, Carnival is much more than culture, the church needs to be wise and draw boundaries especially at this time for revelry and half nakedness is not an atmosphere in which people will listen and hear about God and people right within the church are crippling the effectiveness of the church.

Rise up in the name of Jesus Christ and the devil will flee. Peter then took him by the right hand…the right hand was very significant in those days as this was a sign of sealing a deal, “my word is my bond” Peter extending his right hand was an assurance to the man that God will not turn His back on you, you are now healed. He then got up and went into the church to praise God…Praise comes out of pain, if you don’t know my pain then you can’t understand my praise. In order for God to lift you and elevate you, you need to step out of your pain and begin to praise God.

How our nation needs the right hand of God to be extended to us….for Jesus sitteth at the right hand of God and makes intercession on our behalf.

Some of us are restricted from being taken to the next level because our focus is on things which cannot help us. There is a mindset in the world that Christ isn’t coming again but when the world tries to make us think this, the church needs to stand upright, lift her head and know that redemption draweth nigh.
It would take an elevation inspirit to save this nation
